The Myth
Synopsis : In The Myth, Chan plays Jack, an archaeologist who gets caught up in an ancient legend when he and a scientist friend set off in search of a missing tomb and royal treasure. The film jumps back and forth between present-day reality and a past from Jack's dreams, in which he is a warrior from 221 B.C. in love with an emperor's princess. As Jack gets closer to the treasure, the lines between past and present and dreams and reality blur, allowing Tong to stage not only contemporary fight scenes in the classic Chan mold, but also to mount large-scale battle sequences with elaborate costumes and historical production design. Along the way Jack meets up with a sexy yoga practitioner in the present and struggles to protect the beautiful princess of the past. The jumping back and forth between the time periods isn't all that coherent, and the connections between them are tenuous at best, but there's enough surface action that most fans of Asian adventure films probably won't complain.
